We’re Working from Home,Folks!

As it has killed more than 7,000 people and infected more than 179,000 worldwide, it seems that our battle with the coronavirus, or COVID-19, is going to last for a while. As of this morning, Indonesia has reported 172 cases and 7 deaths, with the majority of cases happening in DKI Jakarta. Experts have predicted by learning from what has been done in China, the virus may abate in about two months only if cities can be consistent in applying social distancing and lockdowns to slow down infection.

For this same reason and to tackle economic slowdown, President Joko Widodo has urged Indonesians to work from home for those who can. In response to that, most of Jakarta's companies have resorted to work from home at least for the next 2 weeks, the What's New Indonesia office. The city has also suspended schools and exams for equal time, and are encouraged to resort to remote learning. It is agreed that this is the best way to help reducing the rapid speed of the virus.

The Indonesian Ministry's of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) has also announced new policies in response to the outbreak, which includes exemption for short-stay visits, visa-on-arrival and diplomatic visa-free facilities, and the new travel restrictions, which will all come into effect on Friday.

Though we know this is a tough time and will take a lot of getting used to, I believe that these measures are more than necessary. While you're at home, take the time to connect with your loved ones, staying safe, and protect the elderly, as they are the most vulnerable to the virus' fatality. For more ideas, here are some that we think could be helpful for you while you're at home.

Until next time, please stay safe and be virus-free.

Cheers,
