Jakarta Celebrates Anniversary with Virtual Celebration

Traditionally a time of massive fair for Jakartans, this year's Jakarta Anniversary went strictly online with a a number of virtual activities including the Jakarta Great Online Sale, virtual tours across the city's tourist destinations and cultural streaming programs. You can still check out some of the live streaming at the newly launched beritajakarta.tv.    Happy 493rd Birthday, Jakarta!

News from the tech world: a week after ride-hailing firm Grab announced the layoff of its 360 employees, Gojek hsa also announced that it's laying off 430 of theirs, or about 9% of its total headcount, as reported by techinasia.com. The two startups have both claimed that the layoffs are part of a response to the pressure of Covid-19 pandemic. Gojek's GoLife division, which includes on-demand cleaning and massage services, will be closed down by July 27. Also on the chopping block is GoFood Festivals, a food court concept featuring curated GoFood merchants.

Moving along to the second hottest transportation means in the capital, PT MRT Jakarta has decided to continue the phase 2 construction of the Jakarta MRT project, after a three-month delay due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Phase 2 of the MRT's development will see the construction of seven underground stations, extending 6.3 kilometers from Bundaran HI to Kota in West Jakarta. MRT Jakarta now expects the construction to be concluded by March 2025, as reported by detik.com.

But it's not only infrastructure constructions that are slowly easing its way into the new normal, many restaurants and hotels in Jakarta, Bandung, and Bali have also opened up their doors, with strict physical restrictions, obviously. Check out our.

But if you're not ready to get out there, these Bali fashion labels are now available to shop online! Speaking of something essentially Bali, We also have compiled some of our favorite running tracks in Bali for you runners who are dying to go back out there.

Last but not least, don't forget to join our Instagram LIVE with mixologist @sip_sensei that will teach his tricks of the trade to make some killer drinks, this Friday, 4.30 PM. Be (virtually) there, or be square!

Happy weekend
